Three things on teaching with technology

  1. Technology is a friend

I’ve established that teaching is a multifaceted job that requires careful planning and execution. From crafting lesson plans to assessing student progress and adapting teaching methods, the workload can be a lot! However, integrating technology into the classroom can significantly relieve this burden and enhance the overall teaching experience.

For example, instead of manually creating and distributing assignments, technology allows for quick design and delivery of online assessments, saving time and reducing administrative tasks. In addition, automated grading systems can provide systematic & immediate feedback to students, enabling instructors to focus more on providing support/ guidance rather than spending hours on grading.

Overall, technology enables effective tracking of student progress through data-driven insights. By analyzing student performance metrics and identifying areas for improvement, instructors can tweak their teaching strategies to meet individual learning needs. Tech is a friend indeed!

2. Technology is a facilitator

Aside from being a friend, I’ve also learned that employing technology in the classroom can enhance student engagement in a much better way than using traditional methods.

For instance, we covered in class that student’s attention spans begin waning after about 15 minutes of lecturing. The instructor needs to be aware of this and apply technology such as YouTube videos, interactive quizzes via clickers, or short surveys, to break up the monotony and invigorate learning.

3. Technology allows for flexibility

Lastly, incorporating digital tools in teaching creates a flexible learning environment. Tools such as shared folders grant students access to educational materials and resources anytime, anywhere.

We are living in a hyper-connected world, the internet provides instant access to a wealth of resources, including Zoom classrooms, Guest lectures, e-books, etc., all of which enhance the learning experience. By integrating technology into teaching practices, students can advance the skills necessary for success in the modern workforce.

Whatever your quest, you can apply technology to Empower, Engage, and Evolve.
